Black and White Film Workshops
Mike usually teaches Black and White film Processing and printing as a 1-to-1 Workshop. This can be done over 1 or 2 days.
An Introduction to Black and White Film Processing and Printing – One day OR Two day, 1-to1 Workshop
Dates: These can be arranged at any time – Please contact us if you would like to arrange.
Time: 10am til 5.30pm each day.
Cost:
1 day only – €250.00
2 days – €400.00
Places: This is generally a 1-to-1 workshop but the darkroom can be arranged to accommodate 2 people so if you have a friend who would like to share let us know. (There would be a small surcharge for two people). Alternately if you would like to put your name down for this workshop and wait until we have a second person who also wanted to share let us know.
Location: Platform3 Studio/Darkroom.
What you will learn.
Participants will learn the basics of shooting B&W film to create good negatives and then developing a Black and White film and then hand printing from their negatives in the darkroom.
Darkroom protocol and safety.
Day 1
A short introduction to shooting B&W film. Participants will each get a roll of film and we will go out and about in the city and make images for an hour or so. We may also make some in the studio if the weather isn’t good!
NOTE: Participants MAY bring along film that they have shot previously and is ready to process.
We will then learn how to develop our films and what possibilities are available for this process.
After processing we will have an introduction to printing our images in the darkroom.
Learn the use of enlargers to make prints.
Learn how to control contrast etc
Participants will have some finished prints to take away at the end the day.
The workshop will be from 10am until 5.30pm
Day 2
For those participants who would like to extend the workshop and gain a lot more experience in darkroom printing, we offer a second full day of printing from 10am until 5.30pm.
ALL FILM, PAPER AND CHEMISTRY IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE!!
Participants should bring along a working film SLR – either 35mm or medium format up to 6×7
Cameras may be available to borrow for this workshop – please ask if you don’t have one.
Workshop fees as shown above. A deposit of €100.00 is required to book a place. Remainder of fee is due on the day of the course.
