One-Day Outdoor Spring Workshop

One-day Outdoor Early Spring Workshop in West Cork with Mike Brown – Saturday 13th April 2024

The day:

Location: This workshop will be based near Clonakilty but we will move around and may also include the beautiful villages of Timoleague and Courtmacsherry as well as the Clonakilty Bay area.
This area is renowned for its beautiful and rugged coastal landscapes and scenery but also has local monuments, historical buildings and woodland landscapes which we will visit if conditions suit. It is packed full of photo opportunities within a short drive from the meeting point – which will be sent to you when you’re booked on the Workshop.  The weather will dictate what and where we photograph for the day. NOTE: If the forecast for the day is especially bad we will postpone with plenty of time and reschedule for a later date. Hopefully by mid-April we will be good.

We will keep the day relaxed with a start time of 10.30am and go through until around sunset. We will take a break for lunch at a local establishment during the day [this will be at the participants discretion – if you prefer to bring your own packed lunch this will be fine too].

TRANSPORTATION will be shared for the day after we meet up. Some participants will be asked to share their vehicles and Mike will take 2 to 3 of the group on the day.

Expert guidance and tuition from Mike during the whole day.

Who this workshop is for:
Our photo days are for all levels of SLR/Mirrorless photographer. Whether you are just starting with digital photography or are an experienced photographer there will be something for you. All the photo opportunities will offer any photographer a challenge and a chance to make interesting and beautiful images. Mike will be on hand to assist or teach and can do some 1-to-1 with guests during the quieter moments of the day and at locations. With over 30 years experience as a professional photographer and extensive teaching experience Mike can answer most questions in an easy to understand manner. While most digital users [and Mike] will shoot Raw format image there is no problem if you wish to shoot jpegs and Mike will assist you in making the most of either format.
Equipment:
A digital[or film] SLR or Mirrorless camera and whatever lenses you have available. Wide angles to short telephotos should suffice for most subject matter. If in doubt call or email us. Mike will answer any questions about your equipment suitability if you contact him by email
Filters: Filters [mainly Graduated or full ND] may be very useful if conditions are conducive to long exposures but if you don’t have these don’t worry.  If you are thinking of purchasing these – Mike can give advice on what filters you might need or what to purchase before the workshop if you contact him.
A tripod would generally be considered to be very useful or essential for this type of workshop – and it can be. However, Mike is open to people using their cameras hand-held for different artistic effects and more free shooting. If you don’t own a tripod and would like to use one we may have one you can borrow for the day – please contact Mike before the workshop.
Contact Mike regarding any question regarding gear required or suggested any time.
