Explore the Origins of Modern Photography
Professional photographer Mike Brown works with many techniques in photography including the Wet Plate Collodion technique developed in 1851. Wet Plate was essentially the first commercially viable way of making photography and remained so until approximately 1880 when the first “Dry Plates” were created.
These days, many modern practitioners use this 170 year old technique because it is both a hand-crafted and hands-on way of making a photographic image! It produces images which are not quite the same as a modern photograph with an almost haunting quality, no matter the subject.
For this Workshop Mike will provide ALL of the necessary equipment, chemistry and substrates to make your images. Just turn up!
You will have full access to Mike’s own cameras in different formats – 5×4, 8.5×6.5 [whole plate] and 10×8 – if you prefer to bring your own please check with Mike regarding the format.
